A lot of women leave their jobs and start a home based business so that they can spend more time with their children and can also continue to contribute to their family’s finances. While this sounds extremely practical and do-able, in reality, it takes a lot of commitment, time management and patience to be a successful entrepreneur and a mother at the same time.
One of the most common problem work-at-home mothers have to face is that of time management. They either tend to spend too much time with establishing and running their home based business to really spend any quality time with their children, or any getting too caught up with caring for their children to spend enough time on their business for it to take off successfully.
It is important to remember that being a full time mother and running a successful home based business is a tight rope walk. You cannot possibly be expected to care for your children all the time they are at home, especially during school breaks when they are home all the time. Despite working from home, you may want to consider engaging child care for your children. This allows you the time you need away from your children to focus on your business.
You will need to set business rules for your children and stick to them. These rules can establish time periods when mommy cannot be disturbed, unless there is an emergency. These rules can also include phone and door answering etiquettes.
Also try and include them in your business activities like counting the number of responses for your ads, etc. This will let you spend more time with them and you can make this a fun activity.
It is crucial that you always remember the reason you chose to stay at home: your children. Ensure that while you so set business rules in the house, you also spend quality time with them.
Make and stick to routines like having meals together or create a new hobby that you can work on together. Also, do not let any other activity or pastime come in the way of the two most important parts of your life: your children and your home based business.
