If you are thinking of starting a home based business that is not virtual, you are going to have to consider a number of things other than business semantics.
To begin with, you are going to think about your family. You will have to realize that if you are starting to do business out of your home, it will impact the lives of your family members, for better or for worse. Here are a few family related issues you need to consider before you start a home based business.
Firstly, is your family being supportive of you in this venture? This is a crucial aspect to consider. If you do not have the support of your family, it may not be in your best interests to start a business from home. To begin with, you can do without having to deal with any hostility while you try to run your business.
Secondly, if your business is not online, you are going to need work space and this may be an issue if your family does not support you. If your business requires people to visit you, you will need to have your house maintained well, and will need any member of the family who comes in contact with your client to behave appropriately. Your family’s support in this matter is crucial.
The next most important thing is to consider expectations, both your and your family’s, with regard to you starting a business from home. Do you expect their support in terms of actually helping you with your work? Do they know that you do? Are they willing to help you?
On the other hand, what are your family’s expectations of you? Do they expect you to have a lot of free time on your hands simply because you are working from home?
Do they expect you to help them with chores and errands around the house just because you are there? Do they have respect for your work even though you don’t go to office?
It is extremely important that these issues are brought up and dealt with openly to ensure that you make the right decision, even if it means not starting a home based business.
